“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” — Neale Donald Walsch
Are you living a comfortable life? Perhaps it’s time to stop being comfortable and actually live your life!
I used to dream about traveling the world. I’d dream about waking up on a Monday morning without a job to go to (and no financial reason to compel me to work). I dreamed about doing what I loved for a living and helping people live better lives. My dreams, however, involved discomfort. In order to make them happen – to truly live my life – I had to step out of my comfort zone.
Quitting my day job to pursue a freelance filmmaking career was uncomfortable. I was walking away from the biggest consistent paycheck I had ever gotten in my life.
Retiring from my freelance filmmaking career to pursue an internet business full time was uncomfortable. I was walking away from the only thing in my life that allowed me to finally escape the 9-5 grind.
Selling almost everything I own and uprooting my entire life to live for six months in Mexico was uncomfortable. I was leaving everything that was familiar to me. I was doing a lifestyle 180 and moving in the opposite direction of all my friends and family. I was not only moving to a foreign country, but I was doing it with no income and a dream of making a website pay my bills.
In each of these discomforts, my life flourished. I was happy. I was way, way, WAY outside of my comfort zone but I was truly living my life. My life began when I embraced these uncomfortable growth experiences.
Take Action: Identify one thing in your life that makes you uncomfortable, but would help you grow if you embraced it. It could be a social meetup, a speaking engagement, giving a lecture, asking for more responsibility at work or perhaps hanging your creative work in a local coffee shop or gallery. Now step into that uncomfortable thing with an open mind.
